Primo Estate White Blend -2003 (WE-32881)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

“The little blonde,” as its name translates, is made of Colombard. It’s thick and round in the mouth, with peach, apricot and grapefruit flavors that persist through the finish. A good choice if crispness isn’t high on your list of priorities. 1 Note

Wolf Blass Sauvignon Blanc -2003 (WE-32216)

Starts out beautifully, with grassy, sweet-pea aromas mixed in with some hay. Cleansing lemon-lime flavors in the mouth mellow out on the finish, where lemon pith lingers. Zingy half the time; understated for the remainder. 1 Note

Wolf Blass Cabernet Blend -2001 (WE-32218)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A very good wine, and not a blend that you see often from South Australia. Has chewy, smooth tannins and serious black plum at its core, with fresh herb and soil notes on the palate. Finishes isn’t a grand finale—it fades to black subtly. 23% Cabernet Franc. 1 Note

Henschke Riesling -2003 (WE-32257)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This Adelaide Hills vineyard faces Green’s Orchard, and I don’t know if it’s the power of suggestion or something in the soil, but the wine truly does taste like fresh Granny Smith apples. Smells like green apples (and passion fruit), too. Pair those crisp flavors and aromas with a long finish and a nice, round mouthfeel and you’ve got an excellent wine. 1 Note

Henschke Sauvignon Blanc -2008 (WE-102613)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Focused apple, pear, lime and grass notes are punctuated by some refreshing minerality here. The wine’s elegant in the mouth, with some earthy tones. If only the lovely fruit flavors on the finish hung around just a bit longer. Try with fresh goat cheese, sooner rather than later. 1 Note

Tastes of stone fruit and melon rind, but the stranger thing about this wine is its texture, which is powdery—almost like a dissolving sweet tart. The nose shows meat and a pronounced petrol note. 1 Note

Wagtail Riesling -2006 (WE-69213)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Surprisingly complete and harmonious for a Riesling in this price range, Wagtail’s 2006 boasts opening scents of honey, ripe apples, citrus and crushed stone. Peach and citrus flavors dominate the palate, ending dry and stony. Drink now. 1 Note

St. Andrews Estate Chardonnay -2000 (WE-17393)

No oak means that the pear and melon flavors are front and center in this slightly syrupy wine that finishes unexpectedly hard and tart, with metallic notes. 1 Note

Red Bucket Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc -2005 (WE-56202)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Made by the folks at Longview, this Sem-Sauv is cottony-soft around the edges, with a clean feel overall. Smells like green grass, pea and flowers. A good Saturday afternoon wine: Easy, uncomplicated and fresh. 1 Note

Silverwing Riesling -2004 (WE-56420)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This Adelaide Hills Riesling has lively acidity and pretty talc-dust aromas. Its mineral and pannacotta flavors are delicate, and would ideally be a little more concentrated. Could be a factor of the ’04 vintage, in which I’ve found flavor concentration to be an issue. Imported by The Country Vintner. 1 Note
