This is the winery’s first-ever crack at Malbec, and the wine shows the grape’s telltale blueberry and graham-cracker sweetness. But there’s also some peanut and heavy earth in there, too, neither of which does much for what otherwise is a commendable wine. 1 Note

Ripe and rubbery, with a little bit of jump. Blackberry and sweet plum flavors are not herbal, while background oak offers vanilla, pepper and a light creaminess. Finishes clean. Imported by Banfi Vintners. 1 Note

Full and ripe, with zero funk. It’s juicy and tight, with a blast of pepper on the nose. Potent and structured, with moderate tannins. Features 15% Carmenère for softening purposes. Imported by Banfi Vintners. 1 Note

Full and chunky on the nose, with some wood shavings, spice and fairly smooth red fruit. The palate is zesty and bright; the cherry and plum flavors are a touch tart and lean, but they are tasty. Finishes racy and a little gritty courtesy of hard tannins. 1 Note

Super dark; almost black like night. This is big-boned New World Syrah from the Apalta Vineyard, and the aromas of violets and cherry are appealing. Big in the mouth, with bracing acidity and a lot of spare tannin. Very chewy and ripe, with vivid fruit. You won’t find other wines like this; it’s one of a kind. Imported by T.G.I.C. Importers. 1 Note

Creamy and herbal on the nose, with mild vegetal aromas and big but bland black-fruit scents. The palate is big and chunky, with heavy berry flavors tempered by herbal notes. Same goes for the finish, which is thick and hefty but a little sticky. 1 Note

Crimson in color, with aromas of chlorine, burnt stems and rubbery berry fruit. The palate is both mushy and overly acidic, as if that’s possible, while the weighty palate shows sweet plum and bitterness on the finish. Too heavy and not dry enough. 1 Note

Sharp and smells of juniper, cactus and other angular, not-too-fruity elements. The palate is thin and clacky, with herbal, short, red-berry flavors. 1 Note
