Made from 80-year-old vines, this blend of Carignan and Syrah is an intense, concentrated wine, with mint and black fruit flavors and a velvety texture from the wood aging. Made in a limited edition of 6,000 bottles, the wine is worthy of aging, a fine example of southern flavors allied to modern winemaking. 1 Note

A rare white from Corbières, this blend of southern French white varieties is minerally, attractively lean and fresh, with just a hint of wood. Its delicious fresh lemon and herb flavors lead to a crisp, green finish. 1 Note

Pascale is married to Ghislain Calvel, and together they run this domaine in the central Corbières. This blend of Carignan, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre is dark in color, but offers fine perfumes, with soft tannins and great black berry flavors. It would be worth aging this for another year. 1 Note

Despite moderately rich aromas and flavors that marry cherries and chocolate, this creamy, medium-bodied rosé finishes fresh and crisp. Could pair with virtually any summertime favorites, from grilled chicken or fish to salads and burgers. 1 Note

This wine from the Val d’Orbieu group is a traditional southern French blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan. The aromas are of tree bark and spice; they aren’t too lush but they are pleasant and fresh. Tart cherry and spice runs the palate before a mild, smooth finish. Taste it and you’ll agree that it’s the prototypical bistro wine, one that is light and easy. —M.S. 1 Note

The nose is a bit rustic with its tree bark and rubbery notes, while the mouth is chewy and fruity. More robust red fruit asserts itself on the grainy, drying finish before performing a quiet fade. It’s a bit oaky and tough, but overall it’s also a fairly tasty wine that’s easy to quaff. —M.S. 1 Note

Spicy, with raspberry and spearmint aromas. Shows cranberry and plum skin on the palate, which is lean and lacking in the texture category. Gets better with airing, but still shows some bitterness on the finish and not much in the middle. 1 Note

A tremendous value that will be sure not to disappoint. Prominent notes of the garrigue and sweet spice abound while dark berry and ripe red apple provide lush, juicy support. Nicely balanced with an evolving finish that transitions from vibrant fruit to long-lingering spice. 1 Note
