A surprisingly light Cornas, with fresh, juicy fruit, flavors of redcurrants and acidity. There is some wood, but the fruit is what makes this wine attractive, but developing fast. 1 Note

Dark, inky in color. What a wonderful bouquet this has developed, offering floral hints, notes of black olive and bright mulberry and blueberry fruit. This is still very youthful and incredibly packed with flavor. Although it seems creamy at first, it firms up on the finish, showing more iron-like minerality on the finish. Hold. 1 Note

A less successful vintage, the ’98 Les Ruchets shows some aged garnet color and more mature aromas of tobacco and dried cherries. Light in weight and cedary, this is ready to drink. 1 Note

Shows superripe, almost jammy aromas of cherries and plums, but those are balanced by sprinklings of minerals and spice. Creamy on the palate, the wine gains focus on the finish, where it leans toward cranberries and dusty tannins. Hold until 2012, at least. 1 Note

Makers of more forward Cornas, the Durand brothers’ Prémice bottling is easy to drink right away, even in a tannic vintage like 2005. It’s ripely fruity and raspberry-scented, with grace notes of smoke, vanilla and spice. Drink now–2015. 1 Note

From vines more than 50 years old, this is a surprisingly lush, forward Cornas from a vintage known at most domaines for its hard tannins. Black cherry fruit surrounds a core of dense mineral flavors, with light touches of wood on the finish. It’s approachable now but should easily hold until at least 2015. 1 Note

This won’t be released until the end of 2007, and honestly it needs a little time to relax. Right now, it’s tight and a bit austere, with crisp red fruit flavors and a firm foundation. Try after 2009. 1 Note
