Cookoothama Sauvignon Blanc -2002 (WE-33043)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

The nose carries cologny, sugary aromas. It starts off lively in the mouth, and feels weightier as it goes; has light flavors of yellow stone fruit, punctuated by flavors of the stone alone. 1 Note

Evans Wine Company Cabernet Sauvignon -1998 (WE-1551)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

The elegant, spice-driven nose makes a positive initial impression, and the body and flavors do a decent job of sustaining it. It’s a little light in the midpalate, but there are ample black-cherry flavors and smoky oak. An extremely competent wine from Len Evans, a figure in modern Australian wine lore. Best Buy. 1 Note

Subdued and earthy, with hints of coffee and rhubarb perking things up a little. This medium-bodied wine’s tannins are a bit coarse. 1 Note

Redbank Pinot Gris -2000 (WE-9849)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This very pale, crisply flavorful white has great backbone and surprising presence. It cuts a lean profile with pear and herb aromas and flavors predominating, a touch of vanilla and mild spice for added interest. Showing character and length, this will pair well with veal, seafood…and maybe even smoked salmon on Sunday morning. 1 Note

Redbank Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot -1999 (WE-9850)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This wine reads like a sexy but aloof woman: Ruby-colored at the lips, on the thin side and corset-tight. What little perfume she wears (this you only detect after a number of swirls, twirls and minutes in the glass) has promising notes of cream and anise. Oak and black pepper in the mouth; medium-length black pepper and grape finish. 1 Note

The Edge Sauvignon Blanc -2001 (WE-16363)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Ample aromas of toast and wood announce the oak treatment this wine received. Oak-inspired flavors like vanilla and nutmeg are further intermixed with lemon and other citrus flavors in the mouth. The finish is a touch flat, and it’s a bit heavy on the back end with banana and coconut nuances—again from the oak. 1 Note

De Bortoli Sangiovese -2002 (WE-38644)

Boggy Creek Chardonnay -2004 (WE-53036)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This unwooded Chard is elegant and a little austere, but very nice. It has a sturdy spine with a dry, mineral texture and light pear and citrus flavors. The finish isn’t tremendous at first, but lengthens and reveals citrus flavors with some time in the glass. 500 cases. Imported by Indigo Wine Group. 1 Note

Boggy Creek Cabernet Sauvignon -2003 (WE-53037)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Out of the chute, the aromas are sweet and cloying, but settle to reveal cured meat and leather notes. Purple fruit on the palate has its share of stably, briary accents, on through the finish. It’s not the deepest, broadest wine on the block, but its unusual profile merits it a look, particularly with food. Imported by Indigo Wine Group. 1 Note

Redbank Shiraz -1999 (WE-11915)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Redbank? More like redwood. Though most reviewers found cedar and toast to be the predominant flavors and aromas in the Fighting Flat, others identified pleasing spice and coffee notes on the nose, and cherry and cocoa flavors on the palate. Finishes tart, with—you guessed it—dry, smoked-wood flavors. 1 Note
