Best early and then it shows its lesser pedigree later on. Early aromas of ripe berry fruit aren’t bad before they shift to measurably jumpy and edgy. There’s black cherry candy flavors and then snap, crackle and pop on the tongue. Good for the price. 1 Note

Starts with pine, saline and berry candy aromas and it settles on sweet and jumpy. Juicy as can be and very lively, but also short, choppy, sweet and with a bubble gum character. 1 Note

Pretty darn good red wine for what it costs. Smells like pure raspberries and black cherries, with nothing mucking it up. Has balance and acid, a solid mouthfeel, and no abnormal funk or green. In its price category it’s as good as you could ask for. Imported by Jorge Ordoñez/Fine Estates from Spain. 1 Note

Lacquer and apple cider aromas lead to a sticky, sweet palate. There’s a citric edge to it but mostly it’s just sweet and tastes like orange slices and jelly beans. Imported by CIV/USA. 1 Note

Wild, foxy and full of young, bursting berry fruit. There’s nothing tamed or refined or special about this youthful Tempranillo. The flavors of plum and berries are intense, bright, grabby and modest in what they deliver. Consistent wine from year to year. 1 Note

Basement-level pricing is matched by fleeting qualities. The nose is one part baked beans and one part rhubarb compote, while the palate is sharp. It's a high-acid wine that goes on forever but never shows much style or charm. 1 Note

Big boysenberry aromas are lively, a bit minty and fresh, while the extracted palate has a fruit-driven personality, ample tannins and dark wild-berry flavors. Young, bouncy and tangy on the finish. Composed for a young, inexpensive red. 1 Note

Ripe and rich, with some prune on the nose; it shows a good mix of berry and earth characteristics in front of a mildly oaky finish that holds its form. Sort of heavy and overripe but still pretty good. Drink now. 1 Note

We aren’t suggesting that this inexpensive Moscato sparkler is great or for everyone, but its soda-like aromas of lychee and lime are not bad and the flavors of honeydew, lime and lychee are decent. Good enough for cake or fruit-based desserts. 1 Note
