Bouvet-Ladubay, owned by Taittinger, makes some of France's most consistent sparkling wines (although its "France" appellation suggests that it is now sourcing at least some of its grapes from outside the Loire Valley region). 1 Note
Starts off a little stinky, with burnt-matchstick aromas partially obscuring hints of toast and citrus. Delivers plump, low-acid, ripe apple flavors on the palate, ending on the soft side. 1 Note
Pulls out all the stops to create a big, massively complex wine. Despite the flamboyant tropical fruit flavors and rich spiciness supplied by oak, the wine never loses control of itself. It’s a tame lion. Fills the mouth with creamy flavors and sensations that roll on and on. The finish returns to the spicy-fruity theme with a hint of smoky honey. —S.H. 1 Note
