Heavy pear and apple aromas pound the olfactory senses, prior to citrus and Bosc pear flavors. In its favor, the acids are bright, which keeps the wine’s weight and feel in balance. There’s also an appealing flinty nuance, which will make it go well with shellfish and salads. 1 Note

Meaty, woody aromas carry along some cherry and cinnamon, but those scents are distant and slightly artificial. The mouth is chunky and big, with plenty of buttery oak along with nondistinct red fruit. The feel is sharp, courtesy of strong acids, so there’s a tangy, astringent final impression. –M.S. 1 Note

At first the nose is bland, offering what a Spanish speaker would call nada. But with time some dry, spicy flavors and modest yet clean tropical fruit rise up. The finish turns a bit heavy and oaky, but with a proper chilling, this should go down smoothly. It has the basics in terms of banana and papaya-like fruit. –M.S. 1 Note

Earth and berry aromas, and then thin, woody cherry flavors. The finish is buttery and rather bland, and the palate feel is lean and overwooded, especially given the basic pedigree of the wine. –M.S. 1 Note

Fresh and forward, with aromas of pine, lemon and pear. The mouth is rather lush, but hardly fat. There’s clean flavors of pineapple and banana, and then comes a sharp, tangy finish. This is proof that Chile can produce good Sauvignon Blanc for immediate consumption. –M.S. 1 Note

Big, awkward aromas of red fruit and oak are followed by simple berry and plum flavors and even more overt oak. The finish is big and warm, while late in the game the wine turns tangy. This is one of many mass-market Merlots with few glaring faults; but still it fights to rise above basic acceptability. 1 Note

Strawberry aromas are covered by heavy oak and a green tobacco note. The palate is also green, although some strawberry and raspberry fruit fights its way through. The finish is full and textured, but the flavor falls decidedly toward weedy and green. A chalky feel closes the show. –M.S. 1 Note

A light Chardonnnay showing pineapple and pear aromas, and similar flavors that turn quite lemony on the palate. Turns slightly tart on the finish, but the bright feel and the light flavors make it a good candidate for a bar pour or party wine. 1 Note
