Ashland Vineyards Pinot Gris -1999 (WE-14281)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

It is too bad that the winery seems to have overloaded this wine with sulfites; it’s pleasant enough otherwise, and sells for less than most Oregon Pinot Gris. But the scent and taste of burnt match gives a bitter edge to the fruit, and buries the nose. 1 Note

Foris Pinot Blanc -1998 (WE-1705)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A lovely wine with ripe honeyed fruit balanced by crisp acidity. It was fermented and aged in stainless steel, so what you get here is pure spicy Pinot Blanc fruit with a silky mouthfeel and a long, delicious finish. Best Buy. 1 Note

Foris Gewürztraminer -2000 (WE-15485)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Oregon rarely gets credit for how good its Gewürztraminers can be. This is a perfect example: a classic, varietal nose shows citrus blossom, baby powder and lychee; it’s both fragrant and slightly exotic. Clean and creamy in the mouth, its floral flavors have elegant textures and surprising length. Best Buy. —P.G. 1 Note

Foris Pinot Gris -2004 (WE-52276)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A dark straw color, with a nose of pears, citrus skin and yeast. Very dry and firm, with streaks of steel, petrol, mineral and lime. This is a taut wine, with less assertive fruit than many Oregon Pinot Gris. Some troubling bitterness lingers on the finish. 1 Note

Foris Gewürztraminer -2008 (WE-129925)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Almost searingly tart, with a mix of orange and lemon juice flavors. Some rose water and lychee notes come in, but this is the rare Gewürztraminer that could be a good fit for fresh oysters. Good length and persistent, clean fruit flavors. 1 Note

Hinman Red Blend -2000 (WE-22541)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

“Rogue” is right—there’s Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Grenache and Malbec in here. It’s a good wine, but its components keep it from having much of a discernible style of its own. Roasted red berries and cherries dominate the palate; finishes with oak and a little acid. —D.M. 1 Note

Foris Pinot Gris -2000 (WE-14204)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Whatever magic Foris works with its Pinot Gris is wonderfully captured in this near-perfect effort. Vibrant and fruity, clean and forward, it is softly scented with fragrant pears and citrus zest. Somehow it is both big and rich, yet still elegant and balanced, with true varietal character. Best Buy. 1 Note
