I love this wine, with its plummy, blackberry flavors and hint of grilled meat. The tannins are nice and ripe and dry, resulting in a velvety texture that feels fine. Deep and complex. 1 Note

Good price for a Cab from this small, prestigious appellation. The wine is bone dry and dense in mountain tannins, with rich flavors of black cherries, blackberries, currants and wild herbs, like rosemary. Shows real elegance and style. Now–2012. 1 Note

Made with stainless-steel fermentation and sur lie aging, this Sauvignon Blanc is rich and creamy in pineapples, dates and honeysuckle flowers. It’s a very good wine from an appellation that’s far better known for upscale Cabernet Sauvignon. 1 Note

Break out the kitty litter. If you’re sensitive to this smell, avoid. But once in the mouth, it’s dry and crisp, with nice flavors of lemons, limes, vanilla and spice. 1 Note

Quite dark, with plum and black-cherry aromas. Rich and thick; mouthfilling. Some anise/licorice notes. Finishes long, with some drying tannins that make for a tough mouthful now but should resolve nicely in time. 1 Note

Doesn’t say “dry” on the label, like so many others do, but it really is basically dry, which allows the palate to savor the pure fruit of the grape and the beautifully crisp acids. This really is one of the most balanced Rieslings in California, with a slate and petrol edge to the green apple, pineapple, nectarine and wildflower flavors. If you like aging your whites, it should effortlessly glide through the next 10 years in a cool cellar. 1 Note

It’s a dry, crisply acidic wine, brimming with citrus, pear, diesel, honeysuckle and mineral flavors, and it’s an ager, as vertical tastings prove. Beautiful now and through 2013. 1 Note
