Beautiful ruddy color-mostly translucent. Earthy, sinewy tannins-though very little fruit character left. Cigarbox aromatics. Had 5-10 years left of ageworthiness in my book.

I was surprised to discover this wine at Dave's Italian Kitchen in Evanston, IL for only $70 a bottle, presumably from Dave's collection. Still dark red, disguising its age. There's no way I would have guessed this wine was 20 years old in a blind tasting. Notes of burnt cherry, tobacco and tar. Most of the fruit flavors are gone, but it has a nice balance of earthiness and some acidity. I wasn't as high on it as Spectator was with it's 95 point rating, but it was cool to get to try an aged Bordeaux from a great estate at a restaurant at such a reasonable price.
