Yorkville Cellars Sauvignon Blanc -2001 (WE-23990)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This cool region, above Anderson Valley, has produced a very acidic Sauvignon Blanc, so tart it makes your mouth water. Flavors are of wild grasses and lemons and limes and the wine is dry. It’s very delicious, and the acidity makes it perfect for the table. 1 Note

Wattle Creek Rosé -2006 (WE-69837)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Made from Syrah, Cabernet and Petite Sirah, this heavy, somewhat flat rosé has the weight of those varieties normally used in red wine. The flavors are of cooked or stewed black raspberries, cherries, licorice and nougat. 1 Note

Dry and tart in acidity, with an almost sparkling liveliness that may calm down by the time you read this. The flavors are simple, of pineapple, orange and apricot fruit juice. 1 Note

Spann Vineyards Semillon-Chardonnay -2007 (WE-94169)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This is an interesting wine that shows the creamy pineapple and vanilla flavors of Chardonnay, yet with rich, more exotic notes of cashew nuts, yellow apricots and marzipan. It’s full-bodied and almost sweet, yet complex enough for a fine dinner. 1 Note

Yorkville Cellars Malbec -1997 (WE-18209)

Inky dark, this is a big wine in every way. Rich, sweet aromas of blackberry cobbler drizzled with cassis suggest enormous fruit. The flavors follow up, big and jammy, filled with berries of every kind. But it drinks dry and mellow, with soft tannins and acids. This is an interesting but not great wine from a variety normally used for blending. —S.H. 1 Note

Yorkville Cellars Cabernet Franc -1997 (WE-18211)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This Bordeaux variety more often than not produces a light, fruity wine of charm and early drinkability. Here, the sour cherry fruit is framed in dry, dusty tannins and soft acids. There’s an elegance and spicy aftertaste that are very nice. —S.H. 1 Note

Yorkville Cellars Petit Verdot -1997 (WE-18212)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This variety, not usually used on its own, has produced an inky dark wine of considerable power and ample tannins. The blackberry and rhubarb fruit has great depth, and is very dry. It’s not a bad wine, but seems better suited as a blender to Cabernet Sauvignon. It just might be interesting in 6–8 years. —S.H. 1 Note

This is an interesting wine that marches to its own beat. What gets to you is the dry, acidic structure and fruity, earthy flavors that are quite complex. Try this wine with roasted pork loin. If you like aging your California whites, this should fare well over the next five years. 1 Note

Yorkville Cellars Merlot -1999 (WE-23991)

Profile Image

From a Mendocino producer who defends this appellation as Bordeaux country, a rather rough wine, compared to its southerly neighbors from Napa and Sonoma. Blackberry fruit barely ripened, and there are green, stalky flavors in this dry, fairly tannic wine. 1 Note

A bit raw in tannins, and rather unripe, with herbaceous flavors next to the blackberries. Finishes dry, with a scour of acidity and tannin. 1 Note
