Softer and more approachable than some Oz Rieslings, this one still delivers plenty of size and weight. Aromas of pears and limes turn peachy and appley in the glass, balanced by racy acidity. 1 Note

Like all of the Leeuwin wines, the Art Series Shiraz is rich and full-bodied, but because of its cool-climate origins, it never feels jammy or heavy. Toast and smoke mingle with peppery, leathery scents and ripe blackberries. Finishes with firm tannins and hints of coffee and black pepper. 1 Note

This starts off slightly vegetal, hinting at rotting compost, but quickly rights itself, delivering cassis, plum, leather and coffee aromas and flavors in a soft, creamy, full-bodied format. Finishes with some peppery spice. Meant for current enjoyment. 1 Note

From what must have been a cooler year, the 1997 folds in hints of black pepper, smoke and dried herbs on top of cassis and blackberry fruit. Finishes slightly tough and hard. 1 Note

Our panel disagreed substantially on this wine. While some found it still youthful and promising, others found it already tiring. There’s smoke, toast, cedar and cassis flavors along with a firm structure—the question is whether it will improve from here. 1 Note

The rating reflects an average of the two bottles that were sampled, one of which was fresher than the other (both came from the winery). Both were mature, with vegetal accents to the cigar box and cassis aromas and flwood. Red fruit on the finish fades quickly, leaving creamy oak and a tangy, herbal aftertaste. 1 Note
