A Wine

Tahbilk Chardonnay -2003 (WE-51408)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Smoky, nutty aromas lead to textbook, commercial peach-and-oak flavors that finish a little short. Good; tastes like a basic, by-the-glass pour at your local boîte. 1 Note

Four Sisters Chardonnay -2002 (WE-34236)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

White pepper and nut aromas on the nose are light, but the apple, citrus and toast flavors in the mouth are present, in full force. Generously oaked on the finish; a straightforward, good wine. 1 Note

Water Wheel Chardonnay -2000 (WE-17652)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

The palate has tropical and yellow fruit at the core, plus a powdery overlay akin to confectioner’s sugar. Still, it’s not as sweet as it sounds; woody tannins run from palate to finish. - D.M. 1 Note

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Now in its maturity, the 2006 Tahbilk Viognier shows developed notes of roses, herbal tea and grain while still evincing a youthful expression of fresh pine needles. It’s concentrated, broad and viscous with a medium, hay-flavored finish. Drink now. 1 Note

Water Wheel Red Blend -2006 (WE-77856)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Mainly Shiraz (87%), this is a meaty, savory and plummy red at a reasonable price. Hints of vanilla and cola impart additional complexity, while the mouthfeel is creamy, cushioned by ripe tannins. It drops off just a little on the finish, but it's still a very good drop for near-term consumption. 1 Note

Water Wheel White Blend -2006 (WE-77857)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Thick and pulpy on the palate, this white is fruity and simple, with pear, melon and citrus aromas and flavors. It’s surprisingly heavy for such a low-alcohol (12.7%) wine. 1 Note

Water Wheel Red Blend -2008 (WE-106316)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Made in a mouthfilling, supple style, this cheerful blend is easy to like and easy on the pocketbook. Black cherry and vanilla notes are perhaps a little simple, but carried along by a rich, creamy mouthfeel and a lingering finish, they make for a satisfying glass of hearty red. Drink now-2014. 1 Note

Water Wheel Cabernet Sauvignon -1999 (WE-14753)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Where’s the fruit? It’s buried under a pile of charred wood and mouth-starching tannins. The cassis and tobacco that poke through just aren’t enough to carry this wine. 1 Note

Cooralook Shiraz -2007 (WE-99156)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Cooralook is making very good wines at affordable prices, and this Shiraz is in the same vein. It’s immediately approachable, offering crisp raspberry fruit tinged with herbal-grassy-briary notes and a softly dusty finish. It’s an easy sipper that won’t overpower most dishes. 1 Note

Tahbilk Marsanne -2009 (WE-129128)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Tahbilk is proud owner of the largest Marsanne holdings in the world, with a reputation for making ageworthy examples. Perhaps this one just needs more time, then, as it comes across as nothing more than a nicely balanced, medium-bodied dry white with modest notes of pears and almonds. 1 Note
