This delicate Barbaresco moves over the palate lightly and softly, imparting notes of wild berry, cedar, white truffle and licorice. The intensity builds in the mouth, where the wine gains momentum thanks to its tight, compact structure and its lingering tones of smoke and ash. 1 Note
Tenuta Carretta, under the ownership of the Miroglio family, has a small portion of the Cannubi vineyard. The 1998 is elegant and well balanced. There are aromas of vanilla with some soft, ripe fruit. The palate is dry, especially on the finish, but the fruit underneath is soft and sweet. 1 Note
Something of a curiosity, because Scarpa waits for the wines to be mature before their release. This is certainly mature, perhaps too mature, with high, dry tannins and mature, earthy fruit. This is a very dry, traditional style of wine. 1 Note
