Brandborg Pinot Noir -2008 (WE-129914)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This is Pinot on the edge of ripeness, with layers of herb and tomato leaf threaded in with tart wild berry fruit. The tannins are a little rough, but overall the balance is right and the wine does not overreach. 1 Note

Barrel fermented. Scents of new wood dominate; the juice is very tart, the oak not yet well-integrated. 1 Note

Girardet Riesling -2001 (WE-17904)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A lot of shale in the soils adds interest to this elegant, light, fairly soft wine. Off-dry and balanced, it represents good value. Flavors of apples, pears and blossoms lead; a soft finish with a hint of caramel wraps it up. 1 Note

Muller-Thurgau can be a delight in Oregon, but it can also easily miss the mark. This spritzy, sweet wine seems to dance to its own drummer, and should probably be chilled and enjoyed as an aperitif rather than with a meal. It’s clean, fresh and tastes of melon and pears. 1 Note

Henry Estate Müller-Thurgau -2001 (WE-17903)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This is a quaffable (about 10% alcohol), off, dry white wine, with intense, clean, lovely floral flavors. Citrus and citrus blossom mingle, making it almost like a still version of Prosecco. There is a surprisingly long finish with spicy floral flavors, intense and flavorful. 1 Note

Eola Hills Sauvignon Blanc -2000 (WE-11668)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Aromas of jalapeno peppers, thistle and pine needles raise questions about ripeness while not exactly rolling out the welcome mat. That said, the wine is surprisingly sweet, with orange and lemon flavors. Finally, a thick texture runs in contrast to the lean nose, ultimately leaving one confused and asking: Is this really Sauvignon Blanc? 1 Note

Henry Estate Gewürztraminer -1999 (WE-11270)

A distinct scent of burnt match spoils the entry, and the harsh flavors of SO2 can be felt in the mouth as well. This is fermented dry, and it’s a simple, fruity effort, which could be any one of a number of generic white wine grapes. 1 Note

Ashland Vineyards Pinot Gris -1999 (WE-14281)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

It is too bad that the winery seems to have overloaded this wine with sulfites; it’s pleasant enough otherwise, and sells for less than most Oregon Pinot Gris. But the scent and taste of burnt match gives a bitter edge to the fruit, and buries the nose. 1 Note

Foris Pinot Blanc -1998 (WE-1705)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A lovely wine with ripe honeyed fruit balanced by crisp acidity. It was fermented and aged in stainless steel, so what you get here is pure spicy Pinot Blanc fruit with a silky mouthfeel and a long, delicious finish. Best Buy. 1 Note

Foris Gewürztraminer -2000 (WE-15485)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Oregon rarely gets credit for how good its Gewürztraminers can be. This is a perfect example: a classic, varietal nose shows citrus blossom, baby powder and lychee; it’s both fragrant and slightly exotic. Clean and creamy in the mouth, its floral flavors have elegant textures and surprising length. Best Buy. —P.G. 1 Note
