A Wine

De Ponte Cellars Pinot Noir -2005 (WE-95415)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A super reserve designation (just a single barrel was made), De Ponte’s Shirley’s Gran Reserva spends 18 months in new French oak. It is stylistically in step with the Family Reserve, but in 2005 the fruit may have gotten just a little riper, creating a wine that is close to Russian River status and style. What stands out especially is the structure—vibrant and racy, taut and energized, a pile of ripe fruit on a base of steel beams. 1 Note

Winter's Hill Pinot Gris -2009 (WE-123106)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This estate-grown Pinot Gris has a pleasing delicacy, balancing light citrus with whiffs of pine and a base of pear and cucumber. Just 13% alcohol, it might strike some tasters as a little thin, but it would make a fine accompaniment to a course of soft, creamy cheeses. 1 Note

Erath Pinot Blanc -2008 (WE-110458)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Pear drop aromas lead into a wine with less-than-optimal fruit. There is a suggestion of pear, but also overripe orange juice and cardboard. It doesn’t quite come together. 1 Note

High Hook Pinot Blanc -2008 (WE-123071)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Straightforward, leesy, fresh, simple Pinot Blanc, with a mix of jicama, celery and yellow apple flavors. There’s a bit of cinnamon spice in the finish; this is a good, everyday sipping wine. 1 Note
