Bogle Vineyards Petite Sirah-2007 (SL-A1430)

Petit Sirah is one of my favorite go-to wines for steak, or just for sipping on its own. I love Bogle's full-bodied and jammy dark fruit and oak. With lots of plum, dark berries, some spice and a vanilla finish, the tannins are very smooth, even silky, and I love the power it packs. This is probably the sixth Petit Sirah I’ve tasted in as many vineyards over the last year, all from California, and I’ve found that it really blossom as a stand-alone varietal. Highly recommended; price range $9-$11.

Little sweet but very smooth. Big feel. Fun to drink but a little much toward the sweet end. Reminiscent of a Australian Shiraz. 1 Note

Folks, this is the value of the year for California Cab Sauv lovers. Bogle earned an impressive 90 points from Wine Enthusiast, which of course says that the wine has impressive complexity, but the important thing is that it just tastes damn good. Aromas of plum, black cherries with chocolate, and flavors of ripe plums, chocolate, and maybe some vanilla on the finish. Speaking of which, the finish is not going anywhere soon. The Cab is structured very well, and balanced. The tannins are silky and luscious. I was shocked for $8. Enjoy with a slightly mild cigar as I did, or with your favorite grilled meats.

The 2008 Pinot Noir produced with grapes from Russian River Valley exhibited a beautiful garnet color. After about 30 minutes, I was impressed with its chorus of sweet, dried cherries, blueberries some hints of toasted oak, and a nicely formed and light-bodied structure. Flavors of cherry, spices (thyme maybe?), and blueberries were a welcome explosion on the palate. The finish was long and satisfying and the tannins were silky smooth. This paired very well with Mediterranean encrusted salmon. Highly recommended; $13.
