This youngster tastes like cherry skins and red plums. It’s quite acidic, which produces a juicy, tangy mouthfeel. Ultimately it’s rather sour and lean. 1 Note

A sugary kosher brother to the dry Bonarda; this is basically a replacement for sweet Concord-based wines. It offers cotton candy and cherry flavors, and a sticky yet not too heavy mouthfeel. Imported by Abarbanel Wine Company. 1 Note

Broad and clean, with solid berry and cherry aromas along with some citrus zest. The palate offers bright berry flavors, while the finish is full, leathery and tight. Commendable for its forward fruit and quality mouthfeel. A good introduction to Bonarda. Imported by 57 Main Street Wine Co. 1 Note

Colonia Las Liebres Bonarda -2005 (WE-61067)

From the Altos Las Hormigas gang comes this Bonarda that hits with more power than precision, yet in the long run it makes the grade as a fun wine with plenty to offer. The nose is full of dark fruit, coffee, vanilla and marzipan, while the palate and finish are equally fruity and forward. The perfect red for burgers. 1 Note

The bouquet on this bold red amounts to one big blast of fruit, nothing more or less. The palate matches the nose, with black plum, blueberry and cola flavors. Broad in the mouth and fiercely tannic. Spirited but a little untamed. 1 Note

Las Moras Bonarda -2007 (WE-92182)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Despite a touch of volatility and jumpiness, this is good Bonarda from San Juan Province. The nose is a bit narrow, but raspberry and floral notes seep in. The palate has some zing to it, but the cherry and raspberry flavors are forward and mostly pure. There isn’t much complexity or depth, but what’s here is good. 1 Note

Sur de los Andes Bonarda -2005 (WE-65521)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Still not sure what the difference is between Sur de los Andes and Alma de los Andes (they’re from the same winery), but this wine seems a tiny bit more open and friendly than the Alma. It’s evolved, sweet and full of blackberry and blueberry flavors. And the finish carries some warm baked notes that anchor the deal. 1 Note
