Church Road Cabernet Merlot -2007 (WE-113087)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Part of Pernod Ricard New Zealand, Church Road is a historic property dating back to the end of the 19th century, so it is a shame that the wines are not available in the U.S. The 2007 Reserve Cabernet Merlot features delicate scents of dried herbs and tea leaves allied to bold cassis and cherry fruit. It’s firm and slightly drying on the finish; give it until 2015 to come into its own. 1 Note

Hans Moser Cabernet Merlot -2005 (WE-87664)

On the nose this is classic Bordeaux, the dusty black currant and tight fruit very obvious. This is a lean wine, with a core of dry tannins, but there is definite black currant juice freshness, the wine showing high finishing acidity. 1 Note

Hogue Cabernet Merlot -2005 (WE-79652)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Already looking like it’s well on its way to maturity, this affordable blend opens with pretty aromas of black olive, baked plum, white chocolate and black cherry. It tastes as it should—a softer, New World version of a simple Bordeaux, without the excessive drying tannins and without the obvious green flavors. 1 Note

Snoqualmie Cabernet Merlot -2008 (WE-128474)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

The blend is roughly two thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and one third Merlot, the color is dark and rich, and the nose inviting. Spice and tobacco, vanilla and moist earth surround black cherry fruit, with tart and lightly drying tannins. Not a big wine, but well-crafted, smooth and supple. 1 Note

Hogue Cabernet Merlot -2006 (WE-95583)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This 55/45 Cab-Merlot blend is a gem. The aromas are rich with blackberries, black currants and black olives; and in the mouth the two grapes are nicely balanced and full-bodied. Nothing wimpy here—this puts most other such blends to shame. You’ll pick up a hint of licorice and a touch of herb as well. 1 Note
