Les Jamelles Cinsault -2000 (WE-10188)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

There's more going on here than meets the eye in this rosé from this dependable producer of value wines. The very pale color of this rosé belies its crisp berry nose and dry flavors with chalky and even faint, gamy accents. Light-to medium weight and evenly textured, it closes with decent length and a hint of sour cherry and spice. 1 Note

Cinsault is most often disguised as a blending grape, but this rosé is much better than that, boasting intriguing aromas and flavors of superripe stone fruits such as peach and apricot. It's a trifle low in acidity, but has plenty of fruity intensity. 1 Note

The color is bright, almost red, and the wine keeps some of its red roots, so to speak. The nose offers fragrant crushed berries and spice, while there’s cherry along with citrus on the palate. Full yet not ponderous or flat. But also not especially sharp or fresh. 1 Note

Fresh and lively with flavors of strawberry, cherry, raspberry and red plum pulp. The acidity subdues the stronger fruit flavors on the palate, balancing everything out nicely. Moderate weight with a full texture and a zingy, lingering finish. 1 Note

A perennial Best Buy, the Les Jamelles Cinsault is a reliable choice for summer quaffing. It's a little fuller than many rosés, but also a touch more complex, adding hints of minerality to the bold, fruity notes of cherries and watermelon. 1 Note

Frick Cinsault -1995 (WE-6311)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A pleasant, unassuming wine akin to Grenache, but with less zing and grip. Only 12.1 percent, it seems a little flat. An interesting nose with slightly sweaty, gamy notes. It’s good enough on its own, but you can see why this is mostly a blending grape in southern France, where it comes from. Bright strawberry and watermelon flavors make it very round. 1 Note
