Montgó Garnacha -2006 (WE-88011)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A touch scratchy and rough on the nose, with pepper and leathery fruit aromas. The palate keeps that edge while offering peppery berry flavors and oak. More tannic and woody than one might hope for, with lactic notes on the finish. Shows flashes but comes up average. A Europvin, Christopher Cannan selection, imported by multiple importers, including Michael Skurnik Wines. 1 Note

Crucillon Garnacha -2002 (WE-33254)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This Garnacha has a strong berry nose with hints of leather, but it doesn’t hold up to airing. Within the basics, look for loud, juicy fruit that tastes like plum, strawberry and cherry mixed together. Seems most complete on the finish. 1 Note

Abrazo Garnacha -2001 (WE-25385)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Full and minty, and quite the bargain at five bucks. This bargain buster features some cherry liqueur and sucking-candy flavors, while the finish is not devoid of some class, as it offers coffee and chocolate notes. Yes, it’s a bit like cherry soda without the bubbles, but what’s not to like at this price, especially if the menu calls for burgers or London broil? If Two Buck Chuck is so popular, try giving this wine “hug,” the English translation for abrazo. Best Buy. 1 Note

Viña Borgia Garnacha -2005 (WE-65176)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A distinguished little red wine. It’s all Garnacha, and it’s round and a touch citrusy on the nose, while the palate delivers pure, ripe cherry and raspberry flavors. Generous, balanced and shapely. What more could you ask for five bucks? 1 Note

Viña Borgia Garnacha -2000 (WE-15939)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Violet and herb, leather and meat accents adorn the tart plum and cherry nose, which shows plenty of Garnacha character. It’s followed by a tangy, cracked-peppery mouthful of fruit that carries through the brisk, dry finish. Very few wines at this price offer this level of flavor and feel, and smart shoppers will find it on sale for even less. Best Buy. —M.M. 1 Note

Crucillon Garnacha -2004 (WE-51548)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Cherry skins, red licorice and a spot of earthiness carry the sweet nose. The mouth offers additional ripe red fruits, decent tannins and perky acidity. It's a balanced, easy, no-brainer red for those not too picky about what they're drinking. Call it good, sweet fun. 1 Note

Crucillon Garnacha -2003 (WE-40960)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Exhibits dry red fruits and mushroom on the nose, with accents of forest and spice. Somewhat minty and forward on the palate, and arguably a touch gritty and sweet. Raw as it might be, no one can say this wine doesn’t have guts. Imported by The Marchetti Co. 1 Note

Castillo de Monséran Garnacha -2005 (WE-62781)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This full-bodied, cherry-dominated Garnacha is pretty good considering the price. The nose is a bit raisiny and ripe, while the palate is sweet but balanced. A standard red wine with clarity and no surprises. 1 Note

Bodega Virgen de la Sierra Garnacha -2007 (WE-104881)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Green and lean Garnacha, with tobacco, celery and other vegetal aromas. Chunky in the mouth, but rather sour tasting, with grassy, green fruit and bite. Not a prime-time player. 1 Note
