Guitián Godello -2002 (WE-43889)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

An example of a richer-styled Godello, a grape you’ll only find in this small region. The nose and body are both full, and despite no oak aging, there are licorice and vanilla shadings to the ripe apple and banana flavors. Something to chew on. Unique. 1 Note

Bodegas Valderroa Godello -2005 (WE-59910)

Crisply made, with a strong emphasis on green apples. This is a zesty, flinty white made for warm-weather drinking. Despite being 100% Godello it has a lot in common with Sauvignon Blanc. 1 Note

Bierzo in northwest Spain is best known for the red Mencía grape, but here we find organic Godello with hay, corn and other slightly overripe aromas. To continue on the theme, the palate is a touch baked and soft, with spongy melon and papaya flavors. A pliable wine that may already be past its prime. Imported by Newton Land Development, Inc. 1 Note

Verdes Castros Godello -2009 (WE-128693)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Stony apple aromas are mostly neutral and lead to a fleshy, semisoft palate with citrus, kiwi and notes of oxidation. Nice and easy but sort of plump and bland. The finish indicates that it’s starting to bend and will break sooner rather than later. Drink now. 1 Note

Gaba do Xil Godello -2005 (WE-65060)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This wine is at its peak and you may wish to wait for the 2006, but if you encounter this toasty, mineral-influenced Godello, go for it. The palate is loaded with peach, papaya and green melon, while the finish is creamy and smooth. With Gaba do Xil, the stateliness and simple pleasures of Valdeorras on are on full display. From Vinos de Telmo Rodriguez. 1 Note

Abad Dom Bueno Godello -2006 (WE-72040)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A little too much canned fruit cocktail and grapefruit juice on the nose, but overall it’s generous with its sweetness. The palate offers ripe nectarine, although the feel runs perilously close to being cloying. Better if you don’t mind some stickiness to your white wines. 1 Note

Abad Godello -2009 (WE-128282)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Waxy, peachy aromas are less than fresh, and the palate follows that lead via soft, pithy flavors of orange and melon. Shows little grip or structure for Godello and the finish fails to bring it home with kick or pop. Already past its prime. Tasted twice. 1 Note

Bodegas Godeval Godello -2001 (WE-30379)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

One of Rueda’s top producers strikes gold here. Brilliant peach and pear aromas carry a hint of fresh cream, and the palate of pure apple and white pepper is dynamite. Some lemon and hard spice create a firm, biting and lasting finish. Drink this one up while it lasts. 1 Note

Castelo do Papa Godello -2010 (WE-132100)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Ripe and sweet on the nose despite no oak aging, then candied in the mouth. Better if you like vanilla, gumdrop, banana and overt sweetness in your white wines, but for fans of dry, crisp, minerally Godello it’s a softie with ultraripe flavors and not a lot of spine. 1 Note
