There’s a slightly aged quality to this Negroamaro (with 15% Montepulciano) evident both in its granite color and its aromas of resin tar and licorice. 2003 was a difficult vintage and this wine is close to being past its prime: Drink now. 1 Note

Here’s an easygoing red wine from Puglia with sharp tones of forest berry and bramble backed by red apple, raisins and a touch of cinnamon. The wine is nervous and slightly bitter in the mouth with flavors that recall sour cherries. 1 Note

Here’s a pleasantly fragrant blend of Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera that does a good job of delivering ripe berry notes that are intense, but not exaggerated. Black pepper, clove and chili notes are present but well dosed. Pair it with pecorino cheese or braised meats. 1 Note

An opaque wine with much more on the palate than on the nose. Toasted cherries and cola combined with bountiful tannins make this an acceptable sipper, with a dry, pleasant finish. 1 Note

Black cherry, caramel and toffee create a sweet bouquet. Flavors of raspberry, smoke and coffee work well together, and the mouthfeel is easy. However, it turns thin on the back palate and dilute on the back end. 1 Note

If you like wines marked by fragrant, incense-like perfumes, this is a bottle for you. Indian spice, clove, red rose, ginger and sandalwood surround a core of brandied cherries. It’s a corpulent wine that slides easily across the palate. 1 Note

The sister project to A-Mano is a touch awkward, with loud aromas of red fruit and Kool-Aid. Luckily it finds its stride in the mouth, where you’ll find berry liqueur, chocolate and pepper. Slightly roasted on the finish. 1 Note

Dried sage, herbal and mint aromas give way to oak and dried cherry with a dusty mouthfeel. It’ll work fine with a slice of pepperoni pizza. 1 Note
