A big, burly, juicy wine, focusing on powerful red fruits and layers of acidity. The tannins are dense, but the fruit is more dominant. There are smoky flavors, spiked with licorice and blueberries. Caladoc is a cross between Malbec and Grenache, developed in France, rarely planted. 1 Note

Black currants and plums dominate this ripe, soft, open wine. There are delicious flavors of dark chocolate, spice and bacon, which add to the fruit. The tannins are subservient, lending support but not dominant. 1 Note

It is curious how the Cabernet, presumably ripe, tastes austere. It is young, and the tannins will certainly soften, but this is a hard wine at the moment, all edges. Blueberries and cranberries are the dominant fruits, while the wood shows as toastiness. 1 Note

With its proportion of barrel-aged Trincadeira, this special selection has some pretensions, which are generally fulfilled. There is a great juicy character, from stalky red fruits, acidity and dense tannins. The edge of bitterness is only just apparent, a flaw in an otherwise pleasant wine. 1 Note

A new branded wine from one of the Alentejo’s star producers, this red is ripe, fresh, full of red berry fruits, and a good ripe earthiness from fruit tannins. No sign of wood here, just ripe, rich fruit. 1 Note

Powerful wine. It has intense berries, a definite edge of black plum skins, spicy tannins and big black berry fruits. This is serious stuff, but the fruit is always there, a big burst of flavor followed by bright acidity. 1 Note

This ripe, raisin- and perfumed black fruit-flavored wine shows dusty tannin character as well as intriguingly old-fashioned leather and high acidity. In a traditional mold, this works deliciously, making it a fine food wine. 1 Note
