TR stands for Tinta Roriz, the dominant grape in this blended wine (with Touriga Nacional). It is smooth, polished, with a spice and mint character, juicy and fruity. The tannins may be dry, but they in no way inhibit the exuberant fruit. 1 Note

Here are aromas of smoky, juicy fruit along with a palate of firm tannins, prominent overtones of new wood, with ripe acidity. This is a young wine, with good modern potential, which will age well over the next 5–10 years. Best Buy. —R.V. 1 Note

A bit of a disappointment from this winery, but the flavors here seem a touch overripe, with pruny notes intruding into the blackberries. Obvious American oak marks the nose with herbal, dill-like notes and the finish with dry, woody tannins and caramel flavors. Imported by Supreme Wines & Spirits. 1 Note

Tinta Roriz (in Spanish Tempranillo) is recognized in the Douro as a great table wine grape, and this big-hearted wine is good proof. It is surprisingly elegant for its weight and alcohol, a smoothness coming from wood aging. The fruits are black cherry and black plum skin, with tannins showing a tight, mineral edge. For aging. 1 Note

A firm, ripe wine, with great red fruit flavors, dark tannins and an edge of coffee. There is some toast element here in this still young wine. Hopefully the just overripe fruit edge will disappear as it develops. 1 Note

This is a light, fresh wine with some pleasant, soft tannins, but it is somewhat dilute. Pleasant red fruits give this wine a fresh aftertaste. —R.V. 1 Note

A great sweet, Porty wine, soft and immediately fruity. There’s big, ripe, generous fruit with great acidity and lovely, ripe red-berry flavors. Wood tannins at the heart give structure to the juicy fruit; it should age well over the next five years. —R.V. 1 Note

Owned by Barros Almeida, Kopke is one of the oldest Port houses. Now it has branched into table wines, with grapes from its own quintas. This is enticingly aromatic, with a big weight of black fruit, and dusty tannins. It’s very ripe, toasty and ready to drink. 1 Note
