A good value in dessert wine, it shows off honey, dried apricot and orange aromas and flavors. Not terribly viscous, but it shows nice balance between sweetness and acidity. Ready to drink now. Best Buy. 1 Note

Fleur Du Cap Chardonnay -2001 (WE-20977)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This Chard is 100% barrel fermented, with battonage once a week; 70% of the barrels were new. Snyman admits that it saw “maybe a touch too much new wood,” a statement with which the panel was inclined to agree. Yellow fruit and toasty wood stand out on the palate; the nose offers nice nut and floral notes, and gets toastier with aeration. 15,000 cases produced. 1 Note

A heavily wooded, spicy wine that has little connection with Chenin Blanc. Imported by Distell USA Inc. 1 Note

Fleur Du Cap Chardonnay -1998 (WE-6484)

Profile Image

A very capable but ultimately predictable Chardonnay made in the California style: plenty of oak on top of lemony fruit and a thick mouthfeel. Decent acidity keeps things in balance and helps highlight the lighter tropical fruit side. Tasty enough and probably best suited for by-the-glass programs. 1 Note

Pleasant, slightly sweet apple and spice aromas open this straightforward, mainstream crowd-pleaser. It’s medium-weight, with a slightly sappy feel and a round apple-oak flavor profile that carries nicely through the close. Uncomplicated and certainly ready to drink now. 1 Note

Fleur Du Cap Sauvignon Blanc -2002 (WE-20983)

A tangy, palate-cleansing Sauvignon Blanc if ever there was one, this wine has a grapefruit, green herb and mineral core. It’s as fresh and lively as if it were bottled yesterday. 15,000 cases produced. 1 Note

Fleur Du Cap Chardonnay -2008 (WE-99253)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Citrus fruit and vanilla spice start this traditional but lively Chardonnay. Flavors of lemon/lime and a touch of oaky spice give the wine dimension. Fresh but layered. Pait with lobster, oysters, salads. 1 Note

Fleur Du Cap Cabernet Sauvignon -1998 (WE-8244)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Red and black fruit and spicy oak aromas segue into a palate that offers green herb, black fruit and lots of oak. Ditto for the finish, with its dry earth and plum skin flavors. Not the fullest-bodied wine out there, either. 45,000 cases made. 1 Note

This Chenin starts with aromas of vanilla, spice and honey, followed by upfront flavors of peaches, honey and spice. Fun but elegant, with a balanced freshness that keeps it clean on the tongue. Pair with creamy cheeses, fruit. 1 Note
