This fragrant white, with its boisterous bouquet of designer soap, perfume and gardenia, is exotic, but it’s hard to say that the palate that follows is as exciting. In fact, it’s soft and bland, with banana, citrus and nutmeg flavors that don’t come in layers but all at once. A blend that’s mostly Chardonnay. 1 Note

Frescobaldi is making some of the most imaginative wines in Italy. This is soft and light-textured, with a deep velvety color and a delicate finish. Perfect for simple meals and casual nights. I recommend serving it slightly chilled. 1 Note

With 85% Sangiovese and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, this lively wine is a kind of younger brother of a Super Tuscan. Ripe red-cherry fruit highlights this appealing drink-me-now quaff. 1 Note

Spicy and fruity up front, but a bit shy on the nose. A mouthful of plum and pie cherry creates a tight mouthfeel. Slightly piquant and snappy, but ripe and tasty. Will be helped along by the right food. 1 Note

Full aromas of rich blackberry fruit with licorice and cocoa notes are followed by more of the same on the palate. The dense fruit picks up a sweet-and-sour quality and coffee tones on the lengthy finish. Not a particularly deep wine, but a very satisfying one. 1 Note
