For the first time, Shadrach is a 100% Barossa wine, although most of the fruit is from higher elevation vineyards in the Eden Valley. Coffee, tobacco, cassis and chocolate aromas and flavors give this a decadent profile, but it retains Cabernet’s aristocratic structure. It’s round and rich, yet firmly built, picking up tea-like notes on the lengthy finish. Drink now–2018. 1 Note

Only the second vintage of this wine, which sits above The Holy Trinity in the Grant Burge hierarchy. The 2003 is a blend of 36% Mataro, 33% Grenache and 31% Shiraz, showing hints of tea and cola on the nose to go with dark blackberry and coffee flavors. This is crisp and well-structured, with some drying tannins on the finish that suggest short-term cellaring. Drink 2010–2018. 1 Note

This has more red-fruit character than most Barossa Shirazes, with cherry and raspberry flavors mingling with vanilla and carried by an almost syrupy mouthfeel—almost like a berry-vanilla compote. Sure, it could use bit a more spice and complexity, but that would be quibbling; this is luscious stuff to drink now through 2015. 1 Note

As might be expected from a wine not to be released until 2010, this is showing little development or complexity at this stage. What it does have is bountiful raspberry and blueberry fruit and lashings of vanilla, caramel and cedar. Should be a good one down the road. 1 Note

No Shadrach was bottled in 2002 or 2003, so this is the last vintage until the terrific 2004. Blending fruit from Coonawarra, Barossa and the Adelaide Hills, it is a lovely, Bordeaux-styled wine, rather lean and stylish, with plenty of structure to go with its hints of mint, cedar and cassis. Drink now–2015. 1 Note

A lean, restrained style of Barossa Cabernet, with minty, herbal aromas and crisp cassis fruit. Nicely balanced, and it should drink well over the next several years. 1 Note

Easy to drink, with focused green apple, passion fruit and white peach flavors. Not terribly concentrated, but this wine, well chilled, would make a good picnic or beach drink. 1 Note

An unwooded Chard, one in which there’s nothing to distract you from the bouncy, tropical yellow fruit on the palate. Smells nice, like fresh hay. A fun, easy-drinking white. 1 Note
