A Wine

Kim Crawford Champagne Blend -1996 (WE-10800)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A crisp sparkler that features a nice blend of tropical fruit with green apples and limes. Some biscuity and yeasty notes provide added complexity. 1 Note

Kim Crawford Riesling -2000 (WE-10810)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A slightly botrytized Riesling that’s not available in the U.S., thanks to BATF regulations regarding permissible levels of volatile acidity. That said, I didn’t find the VA objectionable in this or many other Kiwi dessert wines. Light apricot accents the ripe pineapple fruit. Richly viscous in the mouth, much like a good Alsatian vendages tardives. 1 Note

Kim Crawford Pinot Noir -2000 (WE-10809)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Simple cherry flavors are clean, pure and easy to drink. At the suggested price of $15, this would be a Best Buy if it were available in the United States. Future vintages will be Marlborough-Hawkes Bay blends and be available in the U.S.; let’s hope the quality stays at this level or even improves. 1 Note

Kim Crawford Pinot Noir -2002 (WE-29334)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

For the price, this is a good introduction to NZ Pinot Noir, showing a smooth mouthfeel and smoky, briary complexities layered over tangy beet and cherry fruit. 1 Note

Kim Crawford Chardonnay -1999 (WE-1507)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

If you are turned off by heavily oaked Chards, this is one to consider. It’s loaded with light tropical-fruit aromas and flavors, along with a nice hint of peach. It’s a little lower in acidity and verve than the excellent ’98, but it’s solid, and blossoms in the glass. A very practical, easy-to-drink wine. 1 Note

A Wine

Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc -1999 (WE-1508)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This New Zealand wine was 25% barrel fermented, which gives added complexity to already intense herbaceous Sauvignon Blanc fruit tending toward gooseberries and lime. The finish is long and layered with echoes of opening fruit. 1 Note
