This is the first Viognier from Lost Canyon I’ve had, and it’s very good. An early release from last year’s vintage, it’s supercrisp in fresh young acidity, with the long hangtime fruit of a cool harvest. Marked by intense tropical fruit, wildflower, vanilla and spice flavors. 1 Note

Shows all the richness you could want in a Chardonnay, with smoky, buttery flavors of pineapples, lemons and pears, wrapped into a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. A scour of minerals gives the wine a steely grounding, while brilliant acidity makes the finish ultraclean. Really beautiful, a top Russian River Chardonnay at a fair price for the quality. The vineyard is in the cool Green Valley. 1 Note

Smoky sweet oak and elaborately ripe fruit combine to make this Chardonnay instantly appealing. With pineapple and pear jam, buttered toast and caramel flavors, it’s brightened with vital acidity. 1 Note

What an interesting wine this is. It’s intricate in aromas and flavors, with a range that includes cherry, cola, sweet wild blackberry and spices, and has complex tannins and crisp acidity. It’s obviously a young wine, and very exuberant and expressive in its youth. But it’s so balanced, it will probably age gracefully. 1 Note

This is a tannic young wine. You can taste and feel the astringency of the grape skins and seeds immediately. Coats and numbs the palate, obscuring the underlying blackberry fruit. There’s no guarantee that age will soften, but if you’re a gambler, cellar for the better part of this decade. 1 Note

This bottling is similar to Lost Canyon’s Trenton Station Russian River Syrah, in the cherry flavors, firm acids and tannins and long finish. It may be a little tarter, but it’s in the same ballpark. Drink it now, to best appreciate the fresh, savory fruit. 1 Note

Quite high in acidity, but also pumped full of blackberry fruit, this Syrah comes across as a bit monolithic and tight at this stage of its evolution. Masses of soft tannins give promise for the future, so hold 2–3 years and see what develops. 1 Note

The winemakers sought out a vineyard close to the ocean, in order to produce a cold-climate Syrah. They got a tough, tannic wine, with pepper and blackberry flavors and strong, complex tannins that make the wine undrinkable in youth. May age, but it’s really unknown. 1 Note

Bountiful in acids that add zest and perkiness, this wine has the fruit to fill all that structure. The flavors are of blackberries and blueberries, and the finish firm and tannic. Youthful; age 2–3 years. 1 Note
