Starts out with some earthy, toasty and minerally aromas, with a streak of minty anise. This is a very full-bodied wine, loaded with earthy, mushroomy flavors, like biting into a heaping handful of mulch. It’s also very dry, clean and organized enough to call a good value. 1 Note

Sounds French, but Paul Cheneau is a cava from Penedès in northeast Spain. It gets my vote as the world's best sparkling wine under $10. One of the secrets of its success? A top winemaker from Champagne is the consultant. A good choice for mimosas. 1 Note

This simple sparkler shows hints of toast on the nose, then plenty of ripe apple flavors. But that's it, and then it finishes slightly soft and sweet. 1 Note

Comes dressed in a loud package, but is soft and sweet. Still, it opens with ripe apple and hay aromas and shows more texture than many similar bottlings. The round apple and mild spice flavors have a warm, easy quality. It’s not that far from a sparkling cider, without being cloying. 1 Note

Full and heavy, with mango and orange juice flavors. Creamy in the mouth, with a full, foamy feel. Good citrus and apple characteristics keep it moving forward, while the weight is definitely there. Good in cava cocktails or as a Spanish mimosa. 1 Note

Maybe you’ve seen the cool yellow wrapper with a shapely woman that adorns this versatile Cava, but what’s inside merits attention as well. After melon, banana and spice aromas the palate takes over with citrus and mango flavors. Distinguished due to its solid mouthfeel and good natural carbonation. Pour on its own, with food or in a mimosa. 1 Note

Aromas of apple cider and mild spice get it going in a good direction, and this colorfully packaged cava does pretty well in the mouth, where the texture is on the soft side and the flavors of apple and orange run a bit sweet. Not complex but good, fluffy and yeasty. 1 Note

A little bit round given that it’s a blanc de blancs, with applesauce and spice on the nose. The palate deals a white-fruit mélange that’s one part tangy and one part generous. Holds steady on the finish and doesn’t show any warts or faults. Nice Cava with an elevated persona. 1 Note

Slightly low on kick and bubbles for a blanc de blancs, but the wine’s mix of green herb, apple, green banana and melon flavors is good and offers the proper set up to a finish that’s citrusy as can be and only slightly pithy. Seems a touch flat or it might have rated even higher. 1 Note
