Chef Ming Tsai is the embodiment of cool meets cooking, combining brains and a dynamic, fun personality with top notch, innovative cooking skills. Ming is the host of “Simply Ming,” a public television cooking show with two Emmy nominations. Ming began cooking for TV audiences on the Food Network, where he was the Emmy Award-Winning host of East Meets West with Ming Tsai. He has also appeared as a challenger chef on Iron Chef America, beating Iron Chef Bobby Flay in "Battle Duck".
His Wellesley, MA restaurant, Blue Ginger, has garnered three stars by the Boston Globe, and he was named “Best Chef in the Northeast” by the James Beard Foundation in 2002.
Raised in Dayton, Ohio, Ming grew up around cooks in his family’s restaurant, Mandarin Kitchen. “I worked every job there at some time or another, from janitor to cook. I loved seeing that instant gratification to make people happy – by literally making something good for them to eat, you could make someone smile.” After graduating from Yale, Ming worked in kitchens around the globe. He trained under renowned Pastry Chef Pierre Herme in Paris, and in Osaka with Sushi Master Kobayashi.
Ming describes his own food style by saying “What I strive for is the harmonious balance of ingredients and techniques from the East and the West. I like the interplay of texture, temperature, flavor profile – every bite should be tasty, complex and interesting.”
