Laely Heron, owner and winemaker of Heron Wines, is a true citizen of the world. She literally grew up globally, from Africa to Asia, and 12 different U.S. states. As she traversed the continents, Laely cultivated her love of wine. In so doing, the philosophy for Heron Wines was also born: that delicious wine should be an inalienable right.
Laely’s first taste of wine was in the Sahara when she was 9 years old. At the time, her family was residing in a former French Colony where many customs remained, including children enjoying water mixed with wine at meals. After high school and college in Colorado, Laely moved to France at age twenty. While there, Laely acknowledges that she was extremely fortunate to meet people who exposed her to amazing, vintage Bordeaux. This exposure was what eventually led her to study winemaking at the Institute of Enology in Bordeaux.
Today, Laely sources grapes from around the world, and travels to each growing destination to make Heron Wines. Year after year, Laely consistently releases high-quality, approachable, and affordable wine; Heron Wines are perennial favorites as “by-the-glass” options at some of the nation’s most iconic restaurants. So next time you’re looking for great wine out on the town, or to order for home, keep Laely Heron in mind.
