If you love Pinot Noir like we do, you probably can’t get enough. The Daily Sip™ loves it so much that we made a return trip to the Willamette Valley, this time tasting over four days. While we tasted many, many great bottles, the wine from the estate-grown grapes at Elk Cove truly stood out.
Founded in 1974, Elk Cove is one of the pioneers of the region, and is known in particular for its selection of single-vineyard Pinots. Our favorite from the tasting room was the 2003 “Francis,” a special blend of the best grapes from their top vineyards—Roosevelt, La Bohème and Mt. Richmond. This wine appeared dark red and was relatively full-bodied for a Pinot with concentrated black cherry, blackberry and currant notes followed by a lingering finish. This wine, at $60/bottle, can only be ordered directly from the winery.
Elk Cove’s Roosevelt Wine Club, which features two bottles bi-monthly, always including at least one stunning Pinot, is a great value at $65 all in—that’s including shipping and tax. We also happened to notice that the first shipment for new members includes the 2007 Roosevelt ($75) and Windhill ($48). Quite a bargain for only $65 delivered to your door.
