Order A Clos Red

Order A Clos Red
Former Marines are among the few, the proud, to make good wine.

2008_jarhead_red_bottleOn this day in 1775, a few good men had a big idea as they sat around a tavern in Philadelphia. Those seriously tough dudes founded the United States Marine Corps.

And around this time a mere decade ago, former Marines Adam Firestone and Ruben Dominguez created a southern-Rhône-style blend called Jarhead Red. The duo felt that the Corps gave so much to them, they should give back--so a portion of each bottle's sale goes to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.

The latest vintage available is a blend of Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault. It has a robust nose of blackberry with hints of plum and coffee. On the palate this red is big and expressive, with black cherries dominating the dark fruits. The wine would be amazing with a steak au poivre or a portabella mushroom burger.

Not bad for a mere $13. That's why we proudly salute Jarhead Red as our Wine of the Week.

If you want to go higher-end, there's also a reserve Jarhead Red that's $24, as well as a Chardonnay--but you're no simple grunt if you settle for the regular red, we promise. You can purchase any of the Jarhead wines here.

Since the Marine Corps is celebrating its 235th birthday today, we want to know what wine you'll be drinking on your next birthday. Tell us what bottle you have set aside for your own special day below.
