For producers of Zinfandel, the “Zin-Sin” pun seems unavoidable. But onomatopoeia isn’t all that makes these Zins worthy of the sinful connotation. With its rich, ripe basket of flavors and typically high alcohol content, Zinfandel can often make each sip feel like a hedonistic dive into a forbidden fruit.
The Daily Sip recently tasted three “Sin-Zins” that you’ll find on a shelf near you and won’t break the bank (all for less than $15...with a Safeway card).
Alexander Valley Vineyards “Sin Zin” – 2007
The original "Sin Zin", this wine from Alexander Valley in Sonoma has been around for 25 years and is slightly more restrained than some of its fruit-bomb cousins. You’ll still find a ripe mix of wild berries with a slightly earthy finish. Perfect to wash down some Spaghetti Bolognese.

Michael and David Philips “7 Deadly Zins” - 2007
Legend has it seven farmers from Lodi, CA gave their souls to produce the fruit for this wine. For that we are thankful. This Zin is slightly fuller and rounder in the mouth with a smokiness that shines through the ripe plum, strawberry and raisin flavors. Pair this up with some BBQ chicken!

Cardinal Zin Cellars “Cardinal Zin” – 2006
This ripe red fruit will make a Zinner out of the most pious sippers. Aromas of red fruit jump out of the glass and are matched on the palate with bright flavors of strawberry and raspberry. Alongside a pizza, this wine might provoke gluttonous behavior.
