Winemaker Cris Cherry and his wife JoAnn have transformed his penchant for Rhône-style wines into one of the most notable wineries in Paso Robles. Named after the couple’s restaurant in the same region, Villa Creek winery wields its inspiration from the great wines from the Southern Rhône, Rioja and Priorat. Cris has developed more than a hobby but a great skill in the art of blending the grapes from those regions (Grenache, Syrah Mourvedre, and Tempranillo).
Villa Creek wines are distinct in style and share characteristics of some of the best wines from the Central Coast. They offer big, bright fruit characteristics, firm tannins, earth, spice and pleasant mouth-awakening acidity. The 2007 Denner Vineyard “Garnacha” is 100% Grenache; it will tantalize your senses without tantalizing your wallet ($35). The 2007 vintage in particular is big, bright and robust, displaying flavors and aromas of black cherry, pomegranate, tobacco, and spice. Talk about a perfect Thanksgiving wine.
