The first 100 point wine that I've ever tasted. Pretty special. As told by their Managing Director, Christian Seely, the grapes come from rare ungrafterd vines. Intense fruit flavor explodes on the palate with notes of licorice. Incredibly long lingering finish.

This was my first Portuguese red, and I loved it. With 40% Touriga Nacional, 40% Tinto Roriz, and 20%Touriga Franca, this tinto displayed a wide range of dark fruit and a slight licorice finish. It reminded me of a right bank Bordeaux, but not as dry. It's easy to see why this wine earned 88 points from Wine Spectator magazine. It's well structured and paired perfectly with roast beef with vegetables in a savory brown gravy. This is a can't miss buy at $10.

Quinta Vale D. Maria 2007 Douro Red is an incredibly deep colored Douro Red, violet, dark red and purple, with an impressive, though incredibly gentle, concentration of mature dark red fruit aromas, black cherries and plums, followed by the elegance of Vale D. Maria’s traditional flavours of raspberry.

A beautiful bottle of wine. Combines new world fruit with old world minerality. Enjoyed with the family at La Chaumiere in DC.
