A blend of 90% Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, and 10% Chardonnay has produced a light, attractive salmon pink-colored wine. It has crisp, poised acidity and ripe red currants, along with a layer of fresh tannins. To finish, there is just a touch of sweetness to balance.

Aromas of walnuts and red fruits show that this is a still a young wine. And that is confirmed by the taste, which is full-bodied but still very fresh and, ripe rather than mature. With its blend of premier and grand cru wines from the hot 1990 vintage, it is almost more like a wine than a Champagne.

There is plenty of the firm tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon, but this wine, one of the more successful in the French Roots range, is also fully charged with Languedoc denseness and ripeness. It has a proper stalky, black currant finish.

In a blend dominated by Chardonnay, the 10% Viognier makes a surprising difference, giving southern aromatics and ripeness to the elegant, green and white fruit flavors of the Chardonnay and the restrained touch of wood.

Here’s a pretty little glass of red wine, silky and supple, with a brisk mouthfeel revealing ripe cherry and tobacco flavors with a hint of cocoa. It’s dry, tart in acids and superversatile at the table.

This semisweet white can come across likable or awful, depending on your mood and the shape of the bottle you’re drinking. The sample we tried for this review was in perfect shape, and it showed tropical fruit and pineapple aromas in front of sugary mango and melon flavors.

My reactions to the various 2004s in the Prager lineup were a bit mixed, and this bottling was no exception. It possesses a light mouthfeel that hints at oiliness appropriate to a smaragd designation, but the flavors seem a bit sour and slightly underripe, ranging from quince to gooseberry and finishing with a tart edge.

Daedalus is a very talented young winery making brilliant wines at sensible prices. The sources for this wine include Carabella, Momtazi, Maresh and Seven Springs, all superior vineyards. Winemaker Aron Hess is one of Oregon’s rising stars. Sweet fruit, dried herbs, sandalwood and spice in a clean, silky, seductive, well-rounded and seamless wine.

Dark in color, with aromas of bacon and spice. The palate is tight-grained and woody, with ample berry fruit peeking through. Firm acids keep it fresh from start to finish, while the only thing holding it back is some hollowness to the midpalate.

Smells intensely floral, an armload of gardenia and forsythia, with additional scents of peaches and kerosene. Has that strong Chenin flavor that always reminds me of hot sealing wax, but there are also apple, mint and peach notes. Just this side of off-dry, a nice, crisp wine with its own distinct personality. Good value.
