Tastes like the essence of ripe blackberries but as with the best wines, texture is everything. It’s velvety and rich in the mouth, with chewy tannins. On the finish, the blackberry plays on, leaving little room for the oak-nut accents that peek through. Nose has permeating menthol and black pepper notes.

A simple, fruity quaffer, this is almost confected in its rush of red currants and cherries, yet stays balanced thanks to crisp acidity and a clean, fresh finish. Drink it over the next year or two.

The Scotsdale has a straightforward plum-berry profile, with a creamy mouthfeel. Tannins cling nicely on the finish. Not as good in this reviewer’s opinion as Howard Park’s Leston Cab—but at least there is regional difference between the bottlings.

From a section of Western Oz; wonderful and lively brambly aromas conjure memories of a berry patch in summer. Chocolate and clove nuances add complexity. Solid to the core, with all sorts of red-berry fruit. The cranberry and tart cherry mix nicely with the fine oak shadings.

Broad on the nose with a pretty dried-spice aroma. Texture is pulpy and chewy, with tangy oak on the finish. A good wine, but one that is missing a deeper layer.

This is a medium-bodied, well structured Cabernet that looks set to reward at least 3–4 years of cellaring. It already shows a complex array of flavors, ranging from coffee, leather and earth to plum, blackberry and dried spices. It just needs some time for the firm tannins to soften.

Bright and limey, with butterscotch notes punctuating the citrus fruit. The crisp palate is light-to-medium- bodied and winds up on a fleeting mineral note. Try with halibut. Best now to 2011.

This wine boasts a lot of the horsey, leathery and peppered-meat characteristics we found in many of the wines from Western Australia, but also a silky texture and enough blackberry fruit to hold everything together.

Cream and lemon notes mix with a faintly dirty character on the nose. The full, lush palate is infused with butter and cream flavors but is saved from flabbiness by a hit of fresh acidity; falls a bit flat on the finish.
