This is the first Port in six years that Prager declared a vintage, so you know they think highly of it. It’s pretty good, not great, but nicely sweet in blackberry and chocolate fudge flavors, with a good edge of acidity.

Dry and solidly tannic, with hints of wood and spice. The fruit is stalky, juicy, with acidity as a constant presence. It is bright, but without great depth.

Amply displays how well Viognier takes to dessert-wine status. This frankly sweet wine has delicious flavors of apricot nectar drizzled with vanilla and white chocolate powder, with enough acidity for balance.

This has richness and intensity of flavor. The sweet dried plums and prunes are steeped in caramel and just an edge of burnt acidity from wood. The finish is delicious and smooth.

This single-quinta tawny comes from Ramos-Pinto’s vineyard in the Torto valley in the heart of Port country. It shows the warmth and richness from the super-rich fruit, balanced with wood aging and lively acidity, at the perfect moment to be enjoyed. The finish is fresh, the dry wood lifted by fruitiness.

93-95 Barrel sample. Certainly on the dry side, the wine is very rich, hard edged in its spiciness, with quite a bite of ginger. The acidity, though, is very much in balance, offering a wonderful crispness at the core of all the sweetness.

A dry, oily, piquant Oloroso that’s more peanutty than almondy. The palate is racy due to no shortage of acidity, and the flavor profile is led by a salty, briney almond and leather character. Sheer and serious, with not a sugar cube in sight.

This Moscato d’Asti offers a simple but pleasurable drinking experience thanks to its aromas of honey and dried flower. This no-fuss sparkler is simple and sweet in the mouth with a tiny hint of natural rubber on the close.

With a deep golden color, this late-harvest Riesling has rich flavors of apricots and pears. It’s a little on the soft side, lacking the crispness to give balance to the sweetness. Drink now.

89-91 Barrel sample. Attractive lemon marmalade aromas already make this wine appealing. The palate, too, shows charm and elegance, with just a touch of new wood complexity. A complete wine, which seems to be coming together already.
