Fragrant, with lots of floral and herbaceous aromas - very typical of Cab Franc. Some juicy strawberry fruit rounds out the flavor profile. It finishes with decent acidity and mild tannins.

Cherries, blackberries, spicy figs, dark chocolate and licorice are just a few of the flavors you’ll find in this intricately layered wine. It’s fully dry, with powerful but softly sweet tannins. Cabernet Franc is a real success story of the Sierra Foothills, as this polished wine demonstrates.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a rich and succulent wine made from Cab Franc and 15% Merlot. This wine is packed tight, with tones of espresso bean, blackberry coulis, milk chocolate, dried lavender and a playful touch of scented candle or incense. Ripe tannins and a long finish. Drink after 2012.

Good, spicy Cabernet Franc, loaded with dry plums and stalky fruit flavors. It’s soft, with a streak of acidity to give freshness, but mainly juicy and fruity.

A good, sturdy wine, fruity with blueberries structured with soft tannins. This has some good ripe fruit and a layer of dryness. To finish, there are dry figs and dark plums.

There’s something ruggedly luscious about this Cab Franc. It’s not an ager or particularly complicated, but it does offer up a panoply of ripe red and black currants, anise, dark chocolate and spice flavors. It finishes dry, balanced and charming.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The bouquet is basically a sweet berry blend with touches of char and heat. The palate offers good core fruit and a sturdy structure. Full tannins and some oaky vanilla and coconut notes show up on the finish. Nice for Cab Franc, especially Chilean Cab Franc.

OS consistently makes one of the best Cab Francs in the state—for me it is always their best wine. Here again the flavors are a powerful mix of ripe berries, cherries, strawberry jam and streaks of coffee and tobacco. Firm and confident, drinks well right now.

I’ve never quite understood why California vintners bottle Cab Franc separately, but this wine shows why the great ones deserve it. Where Cabernet Sauvignon is all black currants, this is cherries, pure and simple. It’s got the balance, finesse, complexity and allure that Iron Horse T-bar-T reds consistently show, with a different flavor profile.

Pours light in color for a Bordeaux red, and the wine itself is delicate and elegant, without the density of, say, Napa. Yet it’s full of fruity flavor, rich in black cherries, and bone dry.
