Cold Creek is one of Stimson Lane's premier properties, and this vineyard selection, froma a wonderful Washington vintage, shows it at it's best. Sweet, plump fruit, vivid and forward, is married to medium acids and soft tannins, with a smooth, chocolately finish.

Crushed violet petals, plum, roasty coffee and cocoa dusted black cherry aromas all welcome you on the bouquet of this wine. The round mouth is just as opulent and inviting, with more dark fruit and mocha notes backed by sweet spice. Tasty and easy to drink.

As always, this is very young, fresh and jammy. Blatant acids push black-cherry marmalade flavors that are dry and rich. Has some real depth; a rich, creamy wine that makes up in power what it lacks in finesse. Best Buy. —S.H.

A stiff, tightly structured wine that could pass for Cabernet Sauvignon in most parts of the world. Cranberry and raspberry fruit vies with herb, black olive and dark smoky tannins for palate dominance. This is a wine to savor and to cellar.

Though the nose is a bit simple, there’s some good plum and blueberry tones in the mouth. The crisp palate shows almost no tannin and winds down to a medium-length, berry-flavored finish. Try with veal chops. Drink up.

Although this is a fairly simple, direct Merlot, it’s a likeable one. It’s smooth and spicy, and the rich blackberry, cherry, red currant and mocha flavors, while a little sweet, are balanced with complex tannins and firm acids. Drink now.
