Wonderfully complex nose, many different aromas compete for attention here, spices and black pepper, talc, dried red cherries, red currants, smoke; sweet in the mouth but with an aggressive powerful style, intense; spicy, powerful acidity attacks the palate; the amount of acidity in the wine is a bit over the top with a biting powerful nature; sweet but dry at the finish with flavors of quince and crabapples; an unusual wine to say the least. The nose on this wine is a bit hard, and in the first bottle there was a definite presence of volatile acidity, but there is also lots of sweet, ripe fruit mixing with earthen and chocolate aromas, touch of smoke; sweet and ripe fruit, almost candied, very ripe; there was some bottle variation, and in the better bottle the wine showed great balance and richness; sour cherry flavors, earthen textures, and a long, deep finish. This is surprisingly clumsy, an overripe and somewhat musty nose that does not improve materially with time, smoky, wooden aromas fall somewhat flat and fail to impress; better in the mouth with more ripe fruit and more depth than the nose suggests; black cherries but not enough of them; what there are plenty of are dry tannins that create more earthiness than is needed; also somewhat short on the finish. Classic Dujas opening, even in a year that has a reputation for being more austere and closed, Dujac gets a fruit bomb on the nose, very aromatic, sweet, perfumed with exotic aromas everywhere, layered and deep; sweet and ripe in the mouth, very much the Dujac style of wine; lots of black cherry flavors; a bit more restrained than many of his wines; still intense though with a hot peppery finish; shows that this vintage has turned out to be much more complete than many originally predicted. Big nose, loads of sweet fruit, black cherries and plums, wood, earth, touch of smoke, layered and complex aromas, slightly floral with hints of exotic perfume; big and powerful in the mouth; lots of black cherry fruit with nicely balanced red cherry and sour hints; very smooth and rich textures, silky, polished; long finish with deep layers of flavor and flavors that stay in your mouth a full minute after the wine is gone. Sweet and ripe nose, lots of ripe black cherry fruit, bordering on the overripe, good barnyardy presence, earthen and woody, hints of chocolate, quite perfumed; smooth and sweet in the mouth; earthen with black cherry flavors; nice depth, good grip; missing some depth and seems a bit weak in the delivery; solid tannins in the mid-mouth, but could use more core acidity to tighten the presentation; good finish; this wine is adequate but does not fail to rise to full flower for a grand cru. Sweet and ripe nose, rich in aromas of chocolate and very ripe fruit; layered aromas, green herbs; sweet fruit in the mouth, but at the same time nicely integrated with a more tart presence of cranberries or crab apples; lots of dry exacting tannins still that conjure up crabapple flavors; fresh and well balanced though with a nice citric finish.
