This well concentrated Chianti made by Mark Shannon and Elvezia Sbalchiero delivers attractive density and aromas of ripe cherry fruit, spice and dried rose petal. The wine is creamy and soft in the mouth with a thick but refreshing finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A model of consistency is this New World-style wine, which delivers red licorice, fruit pie, raisin and clove on the nose. It’s a bit more tart on the palate, with cherry and raspberry taking over. Finishes in the red-fruit spectrum, with a gritty, tannic mouthfeel.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
If you enjoy a big Californian Zinfandel you will love this wine. It’s got ripe, zesty black fruits with a juicy mouthfeel. It’s big but not overblown—the acidity balances well with the fruit and oak to make this another winner from the A Mano line.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Mark Shannon of California has made his name on the back of this perennial Southern Italian value, a dead-ringer for friendly Golden State Zinfandel—as it should be, considering that Primitivo and Zin are genetically identical. This vintage is sweet, chewy and packed with chocolate and cinnamon flavors. You get the essence of natural sugar on the palate, yet ample acids and tannin keep it lively. A perfect wine for the winter.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This 50-50 Fiano and Greco blend is deeply redolent of white flowers, talc powder, pear, peach and offers an attractive fresh piquancy, almost spicy, touch in the mouth. It’s also slightly sweet with noticeable residual sugar and honey-like flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
One of the most Zinfandel-like Primitivos we've tried (the grapes are alleged to be identical). Perhaps it's the result of California-trained winemaker Mark Shannon's influence. Bright raspberry fruit is intertwined seamlessly with darker berries and a touch of black tea and herbs. The velvety texture is a special treat.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A-Mano’s solid, well made Pimitivo has yet again delivered a winning hand despite the hot vintage. Ripe black cherry, cigar box, nutmeg, clove and fruit roll-ups seem to dance in a circle right under your nose. There is slight jamminess that gets mopped up by the wine’s fierce power and structure. Imported by Empson (USA) Ltd.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a simple, genuine wine that delivers concentration, power and personality without much effort. Its success is due to the sunny climatic conditions of Southern Italy and a healthy selection of fruit. In the mouth, the wine offers both sweetness and crispness.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
California’s Mark Shannon flexes his winemaking muscles in Puglia with this barrique-aged reserve wine. He pumps out dried rosemary, thyme and smells that resemble those fish-shaped crackers backed by plenty of rich fruit. Tannins are forceful and the wine’s alcohol and thick concentration might make it hard to pair with anything other than a thick slab of red meat. Imported by Empson (USA) Ltd.
