Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Big and forceful, with dark, penetrating aromas of oak, cedar, stocky blackberry and spice. The palate is pure and deep, with savory plum, berry, herb, vanilla and tea flavors. Finishes smooth and classy, with a dry, clean ending. Gets it right; a very good Bierzo red for under $20.

Eggy, sulfuric and gritty on the nose, with acrid, burnt-field aromas. The palate runs toward grapefruit and bland citrus, and the finish is dull. Barely an acceptable effort given the norm these days.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very nice from nose to bottom. Aromas of berry fruit, flowers and subtle vanilla are appealing, as is the ripe, serious palate of berry pie, blackberry essence and licorice. Roasted and easy on the finish, and sultry throughout. A pleasure to drink.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Much more fresh and perky than previous years, with grapefruit, nectarine and other citrusy aromas. Pink grapefruit is without doubt the lead player in terms of flavor, and otherwise it’s simply a tight, citric wine with scour and poise. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Spicy and inviting on the nose, with no shortage of oak. The palate holds that spiciness as bramble and some tartness enter the fray. More of a ready-to-go food wine; it doesn’t really have the depth or complexity to go further.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
An opening of apricot and peach aromas is proper, while the palate delivers a jolt of zest and acidity to more pineapple, lime and punchy green-apple flavors. Tangy later on, with more than a drop of lemon and lime to the finish. Also slightly pithy and bitter, which is natural for Godello.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark purple in color, with granular, intense aromas of ripe berry, plum and fine herbs. A little complex but also very approachable, with soft, plush berry flavors and a thick mouthfeel. Maybe not the most intricate, layered wine you’ll find, but very good for a Bierzo that’s under $20.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A little too much canned fruit cocktail and grapefruit juice on the nose, but overall it’s generous with its sweetness. The palate offers ripe nectarine, although the feel runs perilously close to being cloying. Better if you don’t mind some stickiness to your white wines.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Hard smoke and raspberry aromas are balanced and pure, and the mouth is ripe, juicy and bright. This makes its point with subtlety and smoothness. It’s not a bumpy, aggressive wine as it holds its balance all the way to the end.
