With spice, raisin and driving dark-fruit aromas, this sweetie is lifted and enticing on the bouquet. Big, rowdy and complex in the mouth, with layered cherry, cough drop and kirsch flavors. Very pure late, with coffee, chocolate and even more spice to the finish. Shows good fruit, acids, heft and overall balance. Delicious and highly recommended.

Ripe and attractive, with deep red fruit aromas. The palate is intense and thorough, with solid tannins supporting ripe, natural flavors of baked berries, particularly blackberry and dark plum. Subtle and smooth on the finish, with length. The blend is 50% Garnacha and 25% each Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2013.

More basic and strained than prior wines from this producer. The nose is rubbery and cheesy at first, with leather and blackberry. Hard, tannic and acidic as well, and only a little softer with airing. Flavors are of snappy, tough cherry and berry, and the finish shows tannic bite. Could improve some with aging; now it’s a tough go.

Sweet red-fruit and red-licorice aromas are attractive and round. The palate of peppy cranberry and plum is moderately tart, although it opens up and gets much friendlier if given time. While many wines from this section of Catalonia are big and modern, this one is more restrained and will perform well with food.

Opens with hard, ripe, almost forced aromas, which settle with air. The palate is wiry, firm and a touch hot, with cola, raspberry and plum flavors that rattle around on a bed of racy acidity. Finishes rather lean and raw, but with honest flavors of Garnacha and Carignan, which comprise 90% of the blend. Imported by North American Beverage Group.

A full-bodied red blend from Montsant. The nose is big and smells of black cherry, licorice and herbal, foresty notes, while the palate is saturated and grabby at the edges, with herb-tinged, roasted-berry flavors. Snappy and cheek-starching on the finish; drink now through 2011.

Not a lot of glaring aromas of a sweet wine here; in fact, it’s showing fresh tomato, cherry and more dryness on the nose than candy or syrup. The palate is tight and a little clipped, with sweet cassis and reduced black plum flavors. Short on the finish, but good and grabby overall.

Slightly rubbery and a touch smoky/burnt on the nose, with red-fruit aromas of rhubarb and raspberry. It’s fresh and solidly built on the palate, with strawberry, raspberry and lactic flavors. Finishes with vanilla, a touch of green and a little bitterness.
