Sweet blueberry and notes of violet and dried lavender describe this delicate Syrah-based wine. The aromatic nuances are soft and layered, making for a very feminine expression (despite its origins) that ends with bright fruit flavors and enduring crispness.

A green note of caper or olive appears first on the nose of this ruby-colored Nero d’Avola. The wine shows soft tannins and enough freshness to pair with Sicilian eggplant caponata.

Here’s a Nero d’Avola-based wine from Sicily with a green, or slight herbaceous quality to the fruit (presumably a result of the high elevation of the vineyard) that enhances the characteristic aromas of red currant, blackberry and exotic spice. The wine offers very good balance of refreshing acidity versus chewy fruit.

Here’s a beautifully tonic and fragrant Catarratto (a native grape of Sicily) that would pair perfectly with lightly fried fish or octopus salad. The aromas are clean and fresh, recalling cut grass and kiwi fruit.

The nose is slightly muddled or blurred, but you can get through to exotic spice, coffee and blackberry. A simple, linear wine that performs well in the mouth thanks to a solid structure; there’s a slightly sour note on the close. Imported by Panebianco.
