Here’s a good, rich white Burgundy-inspired Chard, creamy in barrel-fermented vanilla custard and opulant lemon drop mousse, peach pie and smoky pie crust flavors. Balanced and dry, it’s enriched with crisp, savory acidity.

There’s not much PG planted in SRH but the region shows the promise of a unique style to this often pedestrian variety. Made dry and intense in the Alsatian way, this wine has unusual but appealing floral, apricot and citrus flavors, and what tastes like a touch of botrytis. Yet its high acidity gets the tastebuds whistling.

A very fine Chardonnay showing succulent flavors of pineapples, Meyer lemons and bracing minerals, with a rich honeysuckle and buttered toast sweetness. Flashy, impressive and an incredible value.

Dull and simple, with a stubborn sulfur smell that’s slow to blow off. Tastes tired and sweet.

One sniff brought back a childhood memory of orange creamsicles that were so deliciously gooey and sweet, only this wine is basically dry. The alcohol adds a pleasant, peppery burn. Fun and enjoyable.

Here’s a heavy, dense, slightly sweet Pinot that may not be at its best now. It’s young and jammy, in the way of a wine that hasn’t had time to settle down. But the fruit is huge, and the tannins and acids are all there. Cellar until at least 2007.

This is the first launch of Richard Sanford’s new brand. The pioneering Santa Barbara vintner is no longer connected with Sanford Winery. It’s an impressive start. Power defines the wine, which detonates with explosive cherry-berry and cocoa fruit and oak, wrapped into a silky, velvety texture. It’s drinkable now, but it’s likely to age well for the next eight years.

Bright in acidity, and powerful in flavor, this Chard oozes ripe pineapple, green apple, mineral, honeysuckle and spicy flavors. Totally dry, it’s a little tight, and could develop some bottle complexity in a few years. Nice with Asian fare.

Starts with an opulent, inviting aroma of smoky honey, vanilla, tangerines, Meyer lemons, yellow apricots, green apples and minerals. In the mouth, the flavors are very similar—an explosion of fruits, spices and toast. Just a tremendous wine, but for all the volume and complexity, it’s completely balanced.

It’s the kind of wine that’s perfect for a summer day. You could put some strawberries in it, or make it a cooler with a dash of fruit juice. No insult to the wine, which is dry and zesty in acidity and very good. The flavors are a solid home run of citrus, green apples, honeysuckle and cinnamon.
